This is a case study of a collective bargaining agreement between McNeil-PPC, Johnson & Johnson Customer & Logistics Services and United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber Manufacturing, Energy Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union concerning their business in Lititz, Pennsylvania. The Impact of Union-Management Cooperation on Productivity and Employment

This study examines the effects of union-management cooperative programs on productivity and employment. The author collected productivity and employment data for each of nine manufacturing plants at monthly time intervals over a period of four to five years—from two years before to at least two years after the introduction of the cooperative program. Regression analysis of these time-series data is supplemented by qualitative data from personal interviews and relevant records. The results show that after introduction of the cooperative programs, productivity increased in six of the eight firms in which it could be measured and employment remained stable in eight of the nine firms.

Steel Industry: the Most Successful Example of the Sectoral Social Dialogue in Poland?

The paper discusses the role of social dialogue in facilitating social peace during the process of industrial restructuring in the steel sector in  Poland in the late 1990s and 2000s. It is argued that the sectoral social dialogue proved to be a critical factor for the ultimate success of the restructuring, securing cooperation between the major actors of industrial relations within the branch and providing for welfare of employees exiting the sector due to organisational and technological change.
